Best SAT Study Schedule: A 14-Week Plan for Edison Students

Preparing for the Digital SAT requires a structured, consistent approach. Whether you’re a student at JP Stevens, Edison High, Metuchen High, or any other Edison-area school, this 14-week SAT study schedule gives you a clear roadmap to maximize your score improvement.

This plan is based on the same proven structure used in PALS Learning Center’s SAT prep course in Edison, NJ, which produces average score improvements of 250+ points.

Before You Start: Take a Diagnostic Test

Before beginning your 14-week plan, take a full-length proctored Digital SAT practice test under real conditions. This establishes your baseline score and reveals your strengths and weaknesses by topic area. You can take a free official practice test through the College Board’s Bluebook app.

Record your scores by section and topic. This data will guide how you allocate your study time.

Weeks 1–2: Foundation Building

Focus: Understand the test format, learn core concepts, identify weak areas

  • Review the Digital SAT format — 2 sections (Reading & Writing, Math), adaptive modules, 2 hours 14 minutes total
  • Study fundamental grammar rules: subject-verb agreement, pronoun clarity, punctuation, sentence structure
  • Review core math concepts: linear equations, systems of equations, ratios, percentages
  • Practice 20–30 questions per day across both sections
  • Practice Test 1 at end of Week 2

Study time: 6–8 hours/week

Weeks 3–4: Core Skill Development

Focus: Deep dive into high-frequency topics

  • Reading & Writing: Craft & Structure questions, vocabulary in context, evidence-based reasoning
  • Math: Quadratic equations, functions, problem solving & data analysis
  • Learn test-taking strategies: process of elimination, strategic guessing, time allocation
  • Review every wrong answer — understand why you got it wrong, not just the correct answer
  • Practice Tests 2–3

Study time: 8–10 hours/week

Weeks 5–7: Targeted Practice

Focus: Attack your weakest areas with precision

  • Analyze your practice test results — spend 70% of study time on weak areas, 30% maintaining strengths
  • Reading & Writing: Information & Ideas, Expression of Ideas, rhetorical synthesis
  • Math: Geometry, trigonometry, advanced math (polynomials, exponentials)
  • Practice the Bluebook calculator (Desmos) — learn its shortcuts for graphing and solving equations
  • Practice Tests 4–7 (one per week)

Study time: 10–12 hours/week

Weeks 8–10: Test Strategy and Endurance

Focus: Build speed, accuracy, and test-day stamina

  • Practice full sections under strict time limits — no pausing
  • Work on pacing: mark difficult questions for review rather than getting stuck
  • Master the adaptive format — practice both “easy” and “hard” module question sets
  • Begin reviewing commonly tested vocabulary and grammar patterns
  • Practice Tests 8–12

Study time: 10–14 hours/week

Weeks 11–12: Full Simulation Mode

Focus: Replicate test-day conditions

  • Take 2–3 full-length practice tests under real conditions (proctored, timed, no interruptions)
  • Take tests at the same time of day as your actual SAT
  • After each test, spend 2–3 hours reviewing every wrong answer
  • Create an “error log” — track which question types you miss most and drill those
  • Practice Tests 13–16

Study time: 12–15 hours/week

Weeks 13–14: Final Review and Rest

Focus: Light review, confidence building, and rest

  • Take your final 1–2 practice tests early in Week 13
  • Review your error log — do targeted drills on remaining weak spots
  • Review test-day logistics: what to bring, where your test center is, Bluebook app setup
  • Stop heavy studying 2–3 days before the test — rest is crucial for peak performance
  • Get 8+ hours of sleep the two nights before test day
  • Practice Tests 17–18 (final simulations)

Study time: 6–8 hours in Week 13, light review in Week 14

Total Study Commitment: 200+ Hours

Following this 14-week plan consistently will total approximately 200+ hours of focused SAT preparation — the same amount built into PALS Learning Center’s structured program. Here’s a summary:
